The Old Florida
A uniquely exclusive private members club in South Bruton Mews, Bruton Street, London W.I.
Created in 1930 by Captain Gordon Halsey as a private members club, although in reality the most exclusive night club London has ever seen in the 20th Century. Annabel’s Nightclub in Berkeley Square even when in the original ownership the founder Mark Birley. An entrepeneur and intimate friend of John Aspinall, who owned the legendary Claremont Club above within the same building. Both of which were once arguably the most exclusive of clubs of their kind. Neither of which were remotely comparable nor as exclusive as The Florida. Let alone being entered over floodlit glass steps from the street and featuring the only revolving glass dance floor and private internal telephone system, an obligatory dress code of ‘White tie and tails’ that made The Florida the most exclusive private members night club ever seen in London, that also had three Dukes from the English Peerage on the ‘ social committee ‘ of The Florida. Captain Gordon Halsey and his various clubs in Mayfair, London W.I and at Cannes on the Cote d’ Azur were utterly unique and without peer, the likes of which have never been seen in London since and never will be again.
